How to get there:
By car: Off the B6361 minor road from Melrose Abbey to Newstead along the riverside. Signposted.

By public transport: No public transport past the site, but not too far to walk from Melrose Square on a fine day.

GUIDELINES FOR CHILDREN

Here at 100 Aker Wood Visitor Centre we welcome children and encourage them to visit not only for the fun things we have on offer but for educational purposes as well.

We do however have to enforce certain rules to make 100 Aker Wood a safe environment for them to visit.

We would respectfully ask that these rules are adhered to at all times.

1) Children should not be unsupervised at any time.

We opened our new addition ‘The Melrose Bistro’ just before Christmas last year and it’s success has even surprised us! You can enjoy the choice of two menus and relax in the pleasant comfortable surroundings where our staff will ensure that you will be looked after throughout your delicious meal. You can also drop in after enjoying one of the many speciality coffees we have on offer or even something a little stronger as we are licensed to sell alcohol!

We have ample free car parking spaces and all are accessible to wheelchair users. We allow dogs on leads within the Garden Centre and there is fresh water and tethering points, should you wish to go into the main building or Woodland Walk. Guide Dogs have full access to all areas.

Please be aware that we have 2 frame-walkers which are located at the disabled parking area for customers with disabilities. Please feel free to use them - they have shopping baskets on them for you to use. We also have for sale in the gift shop, portable disabled ramps which you can carry with you anywhere or fix them permanently for easy access with your wheelchair. There are also some folding walking sticks for sale at £16.99.

Our Gift Shop is ready to burst with fantastic products. We have children’s toys including the very popular Bruder range of farm vehicles as well as Jaggets dolls for the girls, Woodstock wind chimes, gorgeous blown glass lanterns and a huge selection of lovely fragrant candles.

We also stock beautiful hand crafted cards with continually changing themes from Valentines Day, Easter and Christmas as well as weddings, christenings and sympathy cards.

Reserve the Woodland Walk and Bouncy Castle exclusively for an hour for an unforgettable birthday for your child. All your food and drinks will be provided as well as balloons for the kids. See below for information.

Our ever changing Woodland Walk has been a real success with our visitors. We have introduced Peacocks, Chinese Silkies, Hens, Guinea Fowl, Guinea Pigs and Rabbits. Mystic our resident Blue and Gold Macaw is also a great attraction for the kids. Within the Woodland Walk we have a bouncy castle that is regularly inflated (weather permitting), lots of playhouses including a fabulous castle, rubber tree swings and a childrens play area.

We proudly brew Starbucks Coffee in our Koffee Kabin and are the only place in the Scottish Borders where you can get a cup of the worlds most popular coffee.

We offer a delicious selection of homemade scones, traybakes, cream cakes and desserts. Also our selection of scrumptious paninis, sandwiches and rolls are second to none.
