Children & Animal Guidelines
GUIDELINES FOR CHILDREN
Here at 100 Aker Wood Visitor Centre we welcome children and encourage them to visit not only for the fun things we have on offer but for educational purposes as well.
We do however have to enforce certain rules to make 100 Aker Wood a safe environment for them to visit.
We would respectfully ask that these rules are adhered to at all times.
1) Children should not be unsupervised at any time.
2) Great care should be taken when entering or leaving vehicles in the car park. Always look out for other cars reversing or the peacocks etc.
3) No running is permitted in the Garden Centre area as well as inside the main building.
4) Go into the woodland walk by the entrance next to the children's play area. Please do not pass children over or encourage them to climb the fencing.
5) Do not let children throw sand from the sand pits.
GUIDELINES FOR DOGS
We love our four legged friends here at 100 Aker Wood Visitor Centre and encourage them to visit. However, there are certain rules which they have to abide by:
1) Please keep dogs on a lead at all times.
2) There are two places you can secure your dogs, both have bowls of water (if these are empty just ask a member of staff to refill them). One is at the entrance door to the main building which is handy if you're just popping in to the pet shop for some dog food. The other is at the entrance to the woodland walk which is generally in the shade. You can keep your dog with you at any of the outside tables but please do not obstruct the thoroughfare for other customers or our Koffee Kabin staff.
3) If your dog is tied up and left, please ensure it does not bark or become a nuisance to passers-by. Especially young children.
4) No fouling anywhere on the premises. If an accident happens there are pooper scoopers for sale in the pet shop!
5) We are unable to let dogs in the woodland walk but there is a nice riverside walk next to our timber yard 250 yards away. Please ask staff for details.
6) Only guide dogs and hearing dogs are allowed in the main building.
Please enjoy your visit with your dog(s) and maybe treat them to some of the wide varieties of pet foods on sale in our pet shop!
Peacocks
Please can you make sure that the peacocks are not chased or frightened by children and also be sure that your dog is under control on a leash. Finally, do not feed the peacocks.
There are three other categories that have rules which we must implement.
Children's Parties
Whilst a party is underway the woodland walk and it's facilities will be closed to the general public for a period of one hour. The time which it is closed will be displayed at the entrance to the woodland walk.
Bouncy Castle
1) Children must remove their shoes before entering the bouncy castle. No food or drink allowed.
2) They must be supervised at all times.
3) Please try and rotate age groups at busy periods approximately every 10 minutes so as to let toddlers enjoy time together, then older children who like to do more vigorous bouncing can have fun with kids of their own age.
4) No swearing or anti-social behaviour will be tolerated. Our staff do patrol the woods at regular intervals and anyone found to be behaving in such a way will be asked to leave.
Wildlife
1) Mystic, our resident macaw, is here for everyone to enjoy. Please do not push anything, including your fingers, through the mesh in his cage.
2) Do not allow children to throw stones into the fish pond
3) We have introduced wildfowl into the woodland. Please do not scare them in any way as they are pretty timid.
4) Please do not allow the children to trample or pick any of the plants you see growing.
